Slim and stylish, Canon’s IXUS 200 IS and IXUS 120 IS offer touch screens, wide angle zoom to appeal to the tech-savvy user
Singapore, 23 September 2009 – Canon today announces two firsts in their popular IXUS line-up of compact digital cameras. The Digital IXUS 200 IS combines an impressive 24mm ultra wide-angle 5x zoom lens with a 3” PureColor II Touch display, the first ever in a Canon camera. Proving that function does not come at the cost of form, the IXUS 120 IS hold the distinction of being the slimmest wide-angle Digital IXUS ever – packing in a 28mm wide-angle 4x zoom lens into a body that is only 20mm thick. With these key additions to the compact camera range, Canon shows its dedication to its IXUS customers who demand both style and substance.
“The Canon IXUS range is one of the most trusted compact camera product ranges in Singapore, delivering consistently on both style and photo quality,” said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager, Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. “By introducing touch screen technology, top of the line wide angle lenses and improved image quality, we are confident the IXUS 200 IS and IXUS 120 IS will quickly find a home in the pockets, purses and hearts of consumers locally.”
Ultra-wide Technology You Can Touch – The IXUS 200 IS
Beautifully designed with a curvy metallic body (available in four colours: silver, purple, brown and blue), the IXUS 200 IS features a wide-aspect (16:9) 3.0” PureColor LCD II touch screen for easy and intuitive operations. The concept of touch screen cameras is brought to a whole new level with the IXUS 200 IS. With a firm focus on ease-of-use, the touch screen technology works together with traditional button control to create a highly-intuitive user experience, giving you fingertip control over a variety of camera functions. Touch AF, for example, enables users to select objects or faces on the touch screen - which the camera tracks and automatically keeps in focus - capturing the perfect image every time. Other interesting touch-functions include special scene modes, flash settings, exposure compensation and shutter playback.
The IXUS 200 IS also offers the complete solution for still images and video. Equipped with a 12 megapixel CCD and 5x optical zoom lens, the IXUS 200 IS is capable of HD (720p) movie recording and ultra-wide angle shots at 24mm as well as telephoto performance up to 120mm.
For an extra dose of creativity, users can also enhance their images with Canon’s Creative Light Effect, which turns background light sources into stars, hearts or music notes. These can be enjoyed during playback using Canon’s new Active Display image review system - a scrolling function that is activated when you move the camera gently to one side, cycling through your images in sync with your movements.
The Slimmest Wide-angle IXUS Ever – The IXUS 120 IS
Measuring just 20mm in thickness, the IXUS 120 IS is the sleekest offering in Canon's latest compact camera line-up. Designed with a 2.7-inch PureColor LCD II screen, it is available in four striking colours - silver, black, blue and brown – reflecting the sophisticated technology encased within.
This 12.1 megapixel compact is equipped with the DIGIC 4 processor and has the availability to capture a wide perspective of scenery or group shoots with its 4x optical zoom and 28mm wide angle lens, including the ability to shoot pin-sharp, ultra-detailed video clips in HD (720p).
The Digital IXUS 120 IS makes taking great photos simple. Optical Image Stabiliser technology reduces blur caused by camera shake; enabling users to shoot at full zoom, as well as at night, without the need for a tripod. ISO Auto and Motion Detection Technology also help users automatically take blur-free photos – adjusting the ISO speed to compensate for motion in the scene, so moving subjects are captured perfectly every time.
Effortlessly Beautiful Images
Both cameras feature Smart Auto Mode with Scene Detection Technology. The camera detects faces, motion, distance, colour and brightness all within its frame. It then selects from one of 22 scene variables to optimise settings for the best results. Smart Auto technology is enhanced by Servo AE/AF technology that tracks movement in the frame, adjusting focus and exposure to achieve the perfect shot.
The Canon IXUS 200 IS and IXUS 120 IS also come with a range of Face Detection technologies so shots of friends and family are captured in perfect detail. Face Detection WB, sets the camera’s white balance to achieve natural skin tones in unusual lighting conditions, while Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB ensures the intended subject is properly exposed and in focus. Both cameras also feature FaceSelf-Timer – a handy feature for self-portraits and group shots as the camera only takes a photo two seconds after an extra face enters the frame.
Both models also feature i-Contrast, an intelligent technology that automatically deals with tricky lighting situations by preventing highlight blowout, while retaining shadow detail. This automatically deals with difficult shooting situations, particularly when subjects are backlit on a sunny day.
Incorporating new technologies, incredible ease-of-use and sophisticated design, the Canon IXUS 200 IS and IXUS 120 IS truly live up to the IXUS philosophy of both having style and substance.
