  • What is the Canon PhotoMarathon?

    The Canon PhotoMarathon (CPM) is a single-day photography competition where participants are given Competition Themes to capture.

    The Themes are only unveiled on event day at specific timings. Participants then have three hours to submit ONE picture per Theme for the competition.

    Pictures submitted for the competition MUST be shot on event day. Canon PhotoMarathon Singapore XV 2017 takes place on 23 Sep 2017.

  • How long does the Canon PhotoMarathon take?

    Typically, the Canon PhotoMarathon Singapore officially commences at 0900hrs on event day with the announcement of Theme 1.

    The key timings of the day are as follow:

    0700hrs – Doors open for on-site registration
    0900hrs – Announcement of Theme 1
    1200hrs – Deadline for submission of Theme 1 entry, Announcement of Theme 2
    1500hrs – Deadline for submission of Theme 2 entry, Announcement of Theme 3
    1800hrs – Deadline for submission of Theme 3 entry
    1930hrs – Announcement of competition results and commencement of prize ceremony
  • What happens if Polling Day for the Singapore Presidential Elections takes place on 23 Sep 2017? *UPDATE*

    On 28 Aug 2017, The Elections Department announced Polling Day for the Presidential Elections will be held on 23 Sep 2017 if more than one person qualifies for the position.

    In the event that this happens, the Canon PhotoMarathon will take place with the following adjusted timings:

    1000hrs – Doors open for on-site registration
    1200hrs – Announcement of Theme 1
    1500hrs – Deadline for submission of Theme 1 entry, Announcement of Theme 2
    1800hrs – Deadline for submission of Theme 2 entry, Announcement of Theme 3
    2100hrs – Deadline for submission of Theme 3 entry

    The Grand Lucky Draw will be conducted at 2130hrs.
    Results of the Canon PhotoMarathon competition will be announced within 5 working days on Canon’s social media platforms and all winners will be notified for prize collection.

    *We will update after Nomination Day takes place on 13 Sep 2017.
    Event will presume as per normal. Doors open for on-site registration at 0700hrs.
  • Is pre-registration required?

    Yes, pre-registration for the event is required as there is a limit on the number of participants allowed for the event to ensure smooth operational and logistical flow for the event.

  • Why is on-site registration required on event day? What do I need to bring?

    On-site registration is required to identify you as a qualified participant of the event. It also allows you to collect your event t-shirt and goodie bag.

    An identification document such as NRIC, Driver’s License (for Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents) or Passport (for foreigners) is required for on-site registration and competition entry submission purposes.

  • What is the difference between Open Category and Student Category?

    The Student Category is open only to students studying in a Singapore Ministry Of Education-registered institution.

    Students are however allowed to register for the Open Category if they wish.

    Each participant can only compete in ONE Category during the event.

  • What is the Team Challenge?

    The Team Challenge allows Open Category participants to compete as a team of FOUR to win an additional Team Challenge Prize (a $2000 Canon eShop voucher).

    The prize is awarded to the team whose members score the most points during the event. The points awarded are based on individual entries submitted for the Competition Themes.

  • I have registered but I did not receive my confirmation letter. How do I know if registration was successful?
  • How do I check my registration status?

    To check your registration status, please enter your NRIC / FIN / Passport number on this page http://www.canon.com.sg/photomarathon/register/status

  • I do not have a Credit or Debit Card. Is there any other way I can make payment for registration?
    • If you are a participating as a Student, you can make payment on Contest Day.
    • If you are an Open Category participant, you can register and make payment via Walk-Ins on Contest Day.
    • If you are using a non-Singaporean Credit Card, please ensure that it is authorised for overseas usage as payment will be in Singapore Dollars.
  • Can I get a refund if I am not able to make it on Event day?

    No refunds upon successful registration. You may choose to write in to us if you would like someone else to take your place instead.

  • Is submission of the indemnity form necessary?

    Yes. Please submit physical copy of Indemnity Form on Event day.

  • I do not own a Canon Camera. Can I participate with any brand of digital cameras?

    Yes. All submissions captured on digital cameras regardless of brands, are accepted.

  • I do not own a camera. Can I participate with my mobile phone?

    No. Only photographs taken with a camera will be accepted as valid submissions.

  • Do you provide rental of camera equipment and memory cards?

    We do not provide any photography equipment or accessories on event day.

  • Can I bring along camera gearsbrands/models not listed in the Registration Form?

    Yes.

  • Can I edit my photos before submission?

    Only in-camera editing is allowed.

  • Do I have to complete all three Themes to be eligible for the prize?

    No. Each Theme is judged separately and prizes are awarded based on each respectiveper Theme. However, participants MUST submit entries for all three Themes to qualify for consideration of the Best Of Show prize.

  • What is the Best Of Show prize?

    The Best of Show (BOS) prize is awarded to the participant deemed by the judges to have performed the best across all three Competition Themes. It is awarded to one Open Category participant and one Student Category participant.

  • What is the judging criteria?

    The judges assess entries based on the following factors:
    - Relevance to Theme
    - Creative Interpretation of Theme

  • Who are the judges?

    The judges are independent professional practitioners invited by Canon Singapore. Their profiles can viewed at: http://www.canon.com.sg/photomarathon/judges

  • Can I select and reserve the size of my event T-Shirt Size before hand?

    Only Early bird registrants are guaranteed T-Shirt sizes. T-Shirt sizes for all other registrants are subject to availability. T-Shirts sizes are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
