Beauty from the Inside Out: Canon Unveils New PIXMA Black Series Canon opens new inkjet printing chapter with the PIXMA Black range, sporting a jet black redesign, internet features and high definition movie printing functions

Singapore, 19 August 2010 – Canon today unveiled the new PIXMA Black series – a new concept in home and office printing that takes the quality of PIXMA inkjet technology and encases it in a completely redesigned black housing. The new PIXMA Black series consists of four All-in-Ones (AIOs) – the PIXMA MG5270, MG5170, MP497 and MP287 - and one single-function photo printer (PIXMA iP4870), all sporting new features such as full-HD Movie Print, and Flickr online photo album integration.

"With a bold new style, the PIXMA Black series sees Canon departing from traditional printer design, yet staying true to its commitment to excellent image quality and high performance," said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. "With innovative new features that tap into the multimedia and online nature of today's world, the new PIXMA Black series truly represents beauty – from the inside out."

New multimedia and online functionality
New to all the PIXMA printers is a full HD Movie Print feature, allowing users to print individual frames from their HD movies. Also new is the ability to connect to online photo sharing site Flickr, directly from the Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX software.

In addition, the new PIXMA Black range also features Auto Photo Fix II to improve image quality of printed output with intelligent Colour Cast Correction. Upgrades to the Easy-WebPrint EX software improves the legibility of gray-to-black text while allowing users to clip sections of information from multiple web pages for collective assembly into an A5-sized booklet for easy print collation.

Premium print quality and speed: PIXMA MG5270 and MG5170
The new Canon PIXMA MG5270 and PIXMA MG5170 AIO photo printers provide users with a range of improved features that will increase the speed of document and photo prints in the home or office. Offering cost-efficient individual colour ink tanks, both models are capable of ultra-sharp prints at up to 9600 x 2400dpi with a minimum of 1 picolitre droplets.

Improvements to the print engine employed in the PIXMA MG5270 translates into speeds of 20 seconds (borderless 4x6" photo), 11.0 images per minute (ipm) (monochrome A4-size) and 9.3ipm (colour A4-size). As for the PIXMA MG5170, it only takes approximately 39 seconds to print a borderless 4x6" photo, 9.7 images per minute (ipm) for monochrome A4-size documents and 6.1ipm for colour A4-size documents.

With an improved Scroll Wheel. the PIXMA MG5270 and MG5170 offer easier access to printer settings – viewable on the large 2.4-inch TFT LCD display. Memory card slots offer added convenience and both the new PIXMA MG printers include the ability to print images directly from PictBridge-compatible digital cameras and USB memory sticks.

Rounding off the extensive features of the PIXMA MG5270 and MG5170 are the optical scan resolutions of 2400 x 4800dpi and 1200 x 2400dpi respectively. In addition, the PIXMA MG5270 is also WiFi enabled, allowing photos to be printed wirelessly from WiFi-capable devices (e.g., laptops, mobile phones and gaming consoles).

Go green with Canon's eco-friendly products
Canon products are manufactured to the highest environmental standards that include Energy Star certification for energy efficiency and compliance with the EU's RoHS for hazardous materials. Recycled plastic is used extensively, and printers launched this year will conserve even more packaging materials with a streamlined packaging relative to last year's models. With daily use, the Quick Start feature saves up on electricity, while Auto Duplex printing and the ability to condense multiple pages on a single sheet significantly reduces paper usage. At every stage from factory to home or office, Canon's photo printers are designed with environmental benefits in mind.
