Canon IXUS Celebrates 10 Years of Fashion Forward Photographic Excellence

Singapore, 18 August 2010 – Canon Singapore today celebrates the 10th anniversary of the IXUS range of compact digital cameras. Introduced in May 2000, the first Canon Digital IXUS featured an extremely compact body, cutting-edge style, and innovative photographic technology. At the time of its launch, the Digital IXUS was the world's smallest and lightest digital camera with an optical zoon lens in the 2-megapixel sensor class. After a decade marked by significant technological leaps, Canon's Digital IXUS has become synonymous with not only style, but also the best image quality in its class.

"This year sees Canon crossing a major milestone with its IXUS compact digital camera range turning ten," said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. "Over 70 years of imaging technology has been distilled into the ultra-compact Digital IXUS range, and Canon would like to thank its customers for its support over the last decade. As we mark the tenth anniversary of IXUS, Canon continues to drive innovations in the category to ensure IXUS remains on the cutting edge of style and substance for the next decade."

Canon Digital IXUS: Where style meets substance
Digital IXUS has gained a loyal following with its smooth finish, pocket-sized dimensions, tactile casing and unique 'box and circle' design by Yasushi Shiotani - the creative force behind the design of the very first Digital IXUS camera. Contained within the seductive styling of Digital IXUS is Canon's proprietary imaging technology. From the linear lens array to the DIGIC image processor, the Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) to the Intelligent Auto System, IXUS delivers perfect images everytime.

Testament to its popularity, in 2009, Canon IXUS received the Long Life Design Award by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organisation– the only organisation of its type involved in the comprehensive promotion of design. The Award recognises designs that have received long-standing support and regular use by consumers.

Over the years, Digital IXUS has become a perennial favourite of photo enthusiasts in Singapore. As IXUS continues to break barriers for compact cameras, it remains every bit the original it was ten years ago.

Slimmest IXUS model ever produced
In February last year, Canon took digital camera design to new heights by introducing the slimmest IXUS model ever - the Digital IXUS 100 IS. With its ultra-slender metallic body, the Digital IXUS 100 IS, measuring only 18.4mm in thickness, makes the perfect photo-companion and accessory.

New HS System
Canon's latest IXUS 300 HS is the first to feature a revolutionary High Sensitivity System. The new proprietary HS System combines Canon's DIGIC 4 imaging processor with a 10.0 Megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor to deliver high quality images with low noise and even in challenging lighting conditions.

Along with Canon's new HS System, the F2.0 lens allows more light to reach the sensor, permitting higher shutter speeds to be used - reducing the effects of camera shake. The winning combination of Canon's HS System and the bright F2.0 lens makes flash-free photography possible in more situations than before, allowing for scenes to be captured in their natural state.

Canon takes a walk down memory lane
In conjunction with the Digital IXUS 10th Anniversary celebration, Canon will run 'The Big One-O' - a photo contest for all things related to the number 10. Open to the general public, participants simply have to submit a picture that is related to the number '10'. The contest is completely open to interpretation and can range from the top ten things in your wardrobe to the ten things in your life you can't live without. The contest will open at the end of August 2010, and details can be accessed at the following URL: www.canon-asia.com/ixus10.
