Canon Offers High Speed, High Impact Imagery with the New IXUS 300 HS

Singapore, 1 June 2010 – Canon, today, introduces IXUS 300 HS - featuring a new HS (high sensitivity) system that marries a back-illuminated CMOS sensor with Canon's DIGIC 4 image processor for outstanding low-light performance and image quality. The Canon IXUS 300 HS is the first compact camera to feature high speed image capture of 8.4 frames per second (fps), super slow video recording (240fps), and new 10.0 Megapixel (MP) high-sensitivity image sensor. The result is incredible low-light performance and high-speed image capture in a stunning form-factor. The Canon IXUS 300 HS is available in high-gloss white and red, and matte black.

"Canon has developed the new (HS) High Sensitivity system to address the growing consumer trend of low-light flash-free photography. The Canon IXUS 300 HS offers users a supercharged combination of speed, usability and creative control – making a bold statement in both technology and style," said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. "With the IXUS 300 HS, we have created a high performance compact camera that remains true to the luxurious IXUS design philosophy – and at the same time elevated the IXUS range to a new level of performance."

Brilliant optics, outstanding performance
The IXUS 300 HS features a new back-illuminated CMOS imaging sensor and DIGIC 4 processor - supporting a maximum ISO of 3200 (at full resolution). In Low Light mode, the camera can also achieve an extended maximum speed of ISO 6400 (at 2.5MP resolution), making it the ideal companion for evening events and on nights out.

The new IXUS 300 HS is the first in the IXUS family to utilise a bright f/2.0 wide-angle (28-105mm equivalent) lens, allowing more light to reach the image sensor. The 3.8x zoom lens works in concert with the Canon HS system to deliver better quality images under low-light conditions. This enables users to use faster shutter speeds and create dramatic portraits by making the subject stand out from the naturally blurred background. Canon's acclaimed optical Image Stabilizer (IS) also minimises the blur associated with longer exposures in low-light conditions and when using telephoto zoom.

Fast-track to a new world with IXUS high-speed shooting
The IXUS 300 HS is the first IXUS to feature a new High-Speed Burst mode capable of continuous image capture of 8.4fps (at a recorded image size of 1,829 x 1,368 pixels). It also is capable of shooting 3.7fps continuously at full 10.0MP resolution.

Extreme, fast-paced action can also be recorded using Super Slow Motion Movie mode, which captures video at 240 frames per second (fps) – 8x faster than conventional video recording – and plays it back at a conventional 30fps, providing a dramatic and cinematic record of movement.

HD video capture – added flexibility in a compact package
For moments that lend themselves to video, the IXUS 300 HS offers 720p high definition movie recording with high quality stereo sound. The lens' quiet drive system allows users to zoom during recording with minimum audio interference, while the optical Image Stabilizer can also be engaged to reduce the effects of camera shake in video footage. With an integrated HDMI-mini port, sharing images and videos is as easy as connecting directly to a HDMI-compatible screen.

Total creative control over your images
Greater level of controls is available in this new model with manual options such as AV (Aperture-priority) and TV (Shutter-priority) shooting modes. There are also fun features incorporated such as the Fish-eye and Miniature effects. These marry the convenience of a point-and-shoot camera with greater manipulation over the created image.

The IXUS 300 HS enables even the most inexperienced photographers to explore their creative side, offering a range of modes and functions that make it easy to capture striking images. Fish-eye Effect mimics the unique perspective of a fish-eye lens, with three effect levels to choose from, while Miniature Effect makes subjects appear like miniature-scale models.

Other advanced features include the Advanced Smart Auto mode that utilises Canon's latest scene and face detection technologies to intelligently select the optimum camera settings to match the shooting conditions for perfectly exposed images. At the same time, Smart Shutter technology (Smile, Wink and Face detection) has also been incorporated, which provides multiple ways to remotely trigger the camera.

In addition, a range of manual settings in TV and AV mode, offer a new level of artistic flexibility to IXUS users who wish to explore, and develop, their photographic skills.

High performance styling
The IXUS 300 HS sports an angular stainless steel body, and is available in three bold colour choices (matte black, high-gloss white and high-gloss red). All images and videos can be viewed comfortably on the camera's 3-inch, 16:9 widescreen 230,000 dots LCD with wide-viewing angle.

The IXUS 300 HS is also compatible with SDXC memory cards that can offer up to 2 terabyte (TB) of storage space.

Pricing and availability
The new Canon IXUS 300 HS will be available from mid June at authorised Canon dealers, and the price will be released on 9 June.
