High Performance, Cost-Effective, Environmentally Responsible: Canon’s Two New Laser Printers

Singapore, 4 February 2010 – Canon introduces the new LaserShot LBP6650dn and LBP6300dn – A4-size monochrome laser printers designed for small to mid-sized businesses. The LaserShot LBP6650dn and LBP6300dn feature an improved print engine resulting in print speeds of 33 and 30 pages per minute (ppm) respectively, automatic duplex, and networking capabilities. With the highest energy efficiency in their class, the new Canon laser printers effortlessly manage the print-productivity needs of business while lowering operational costs.

“With businesses on the lookout for cost-savings at every stage of their business processes, Canon developed the new LaserShot LBP6650dn and LBP6300dn to lower operational costs while increasing print performance,” said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. “Both models are space-saving printers that lower running costs through intelligent energy use and minimal wastage.”

High Quality Monochrome Prints in a Compact Form-Factor
Running on a newly developed printer engine, the new LaserShot LBP6300 produces high quality printouts at a maximum of 2400 (equivalent) x 600 dpi. Furthermore, to cope with fast-paced office environments, both printers’ first print out times (FPOTs) have been reduced to approximately 6 seconds and with a warm-up time of 10 seconds.

Both the new laser printers have a 250-sheet paper cassette, a 50-sheet manual paper tray and are also compatible with an optional 500-sheet paper cassette tray, for a total paper capacity of up to 800 A4 sheets. This makes it suitable for offices with large-volume print jobs requiring a variety of paper sizes. An in-built automatic duplex function also helps to reduce the amount of print resources consumed.

With a small footprint of 400 (w) x 376 (d) x 260 (h) mm (267 (h) mm for LBP6650dn), the new laser printers are compact enough to fit any office where space is at a premium.

Doing more with Less
Efficiency is vastly improved by the page description language used in these printers. Intended for individual and small-group users, the LBP6300dn operates on the CAPT3.1 protocol where the file size of a print job is compressed on the PC before it is sent to the printer. Adopting this protocol enables the printer to handle large print jobs despite only having a 16MB onboard memory. Delegating print job processing to the PC minimizes the reliance on the printer’s memory, ensuring that jobs sent to the printer are processed quickly.

Similarly, the LBP6650dn is designed for higher capacity print jobs as it operates on a UFR-II which offloads some processing tasks to the PC. Likewise this enables the LBP6650dn to handle a greater print volume with just a 64MB onboard memory. However, if users choose to adopt other standards such as Postscript level 3 (available as an option), the LBP6650dn’s onboard memory can be expanded to 320MB.

Connectivity
Designed for today’s connected workforce, the new LaserShot LBP6650dn and LBP6300dn are equipped with a networking feature allowing it to be shared among multiple users within an office network environment. With Ethernet support built-in, the LaserShot LBP6300dn is Canon’s first A4-size CAPT monochrome laser printer to be shipped with network connectivity as a standard, while the LBP6650dn enjoy wider support for standards and protocols including Postscript Level 3 and SAP.

A Star Standard in Energy Efficiency
The International Energy Star Programme compliant LBP6300 achieves the highest level of energy efficiency (TEC standard) in its class through intelligent energy utilisation. It has also received Eco Mark Certification for minimising the negative effect it has on the environment.

Pricing and availability
The Canon LaserShot LBP6650dn and LBP6300dn will be available in end February at authorised Canon dealers at the recommended retail price of $859 and $569 respectively.
