EOS Evolution
In 1987, Canon revamped the entire line-up of SLR cameras with a radical new technology – the Electro-Optical System (EOS). The new EOS system was remarkably advanced and ahead of anything the competitors had to offer. Starting with a new lens mount, the new EF lenses were powered by ultrasonic motors (USM) that were virtually silent and offer instantaneous focusing. Compared to the competitors who were still using old-fashioned motors and driving the lenses mechanically, the cutting-edge EF lenses and EOS cameras were revolutionizing the photography market.
Following the launch of the EOS 650 in 1987, the EOS system expanded rapidly to encompass an entire range of system from beginner to professional bodies. There are now more than 60 EF lenses in the Canon system, making the Canon EOS system the most versatile camera system in the world. There are no other camera system in the world with as many lenses, so you can be sure of capturing virtually any images with the vast selection of lenses.
